Wonderful essay! I enjoyed your writing style and sense of humor :)
If you ever feel comfortable sharing, I'd be curious to read more about your "unwieldy, obsessively organized" journaling system. I've tried journaling before, but never found an approach that worked for me, so I'd be interested to learn about your method. (No pressure, though!)
Wishing you a happy and healthy new year. Cheers to climbing new mountains in 2026!
Loved seeing this pop up in my inbox! Being creative after burn out is exceptionally difficult - it takes so much time and patience. Which is so hard to cultivate for someone like you who has such an incredible work ethic and a high level of output. Please be gentle with yourself, there’s no rush - in fact there’s all the time in the world. Forest trees are so much stronger when they’ve had years to grow (couldn’t resist a nature metaphor myself hehe).
I’ve been going through similar things the last few years and I’d say I’m at base camp for the next mountain - might even chill here for a while. Past me would have been desperate to see the peak. Now I’m just trying to appreciate the view on the way.
Sending you lots of love <3
PS I’ve been meaning to reach out to you because I did a little substack on TLE (which I obviously adooooooored) - if you’d like to hear exactly how much I adored it, it’s here:
Proud of you for your journey (physical and mental!) and your willingness to bear it to us even if it feels like clawing out of a hole at times. You might be self critical but to everyone else you are a gem. Sending lots of love!
A complete surprise to see this pop up in my inbox, but a very pleasant one!! I empathize SO strongly with the head-swimming anxiety of having A Commitment sitting there for you as you’re looking for an accountability metric that will work and not just increase your stress levels.
For what it’s worth, this was a wonderful read! You’ve got a fun personal perspective and a great way of characterizing your own experience that reads very real.
I’ll happily read anything else you share in future—but even just this little hello was great. Don’t worry if an update takes a week or three years or more! Absolutely nothing but love from a fellow burnout aspiring writer. I’ll see you around!!!
Glad to hear you are feeling better 🩷
Thank you!!
